Cinderella 3 *** (library check out) As far as cartoon sequels go, this one was pretty good. The boys seemed to like it well enough, too.
Speed Racer *** (rental) We watched this one for family movie night. Both Tom and I were plesantly surprised. I hadn't heard anything good about it, thus we haven't bothered watching it before. I liked the bright colors. I had a hard time following the storyline, which is pretty silly in the first place, but that is probably due to my inattention during the first half-dealing with popcorn messes, noisy toddlers, blanket fights, and the other joys that come with family movie night. I actually do like Christina Ricci enough that I would have liked her to have a stronger role. And, I was happy to see Matthew Fox...I think I've secretly had a crush on him since Party of Five. The kids loved all the humor provided by the little brother and Chimp. The kids really liked this movie and watched it again the next day. I won't be surprised if this one is added to our collection soon (afterall, we are in the peak of birthday season in our family).
I'm hoping to find more movie time this week ...

I just watched North & South (by Elizabeth Gaskell, the British novel not American mini series). I cried and it's the best scene kiss I have ever seen. It's very P&P-ish. I am not sure if you're looking for suggestion but it;s a great one (4 hours)
Before I comment on the post, I want to comment on Mimi's comment. You need to watch North and South (the BBC or A&E, whichever it is). The train scene at the end is AWESOME!! Two thumbs way up.
Anyway, I love that you do a recap of your movies, because I love movies. The Cinderella looks good. I'll reserve it. Speed Racer was good. I don't know why more people didn't like it. Definitely a good kid flick. And, um, Matthew Fox is hot. He was the main reason I started watching Lost (although I missed a season and the story line lost me, no pun intented, and I stopped watching). My only complaint is he always seems about to cry...
Umm, Brenda, maybe you should invite your nephews over for CInderella. Like I said, it was pretty good, but I don't know if it is good enough to watch on your own. Kids keep you slightly distracted, which makes the movie seem better than it might actually be. Also, I don't know how Jacqui is with her boys, personally, I never really pushed the princess movies. But, I think they like them when we watch them...they would just never choose a princess movie on their own. I kind of entice them with popcorn. So, maybe your nephews need a little Disney princess interaction...just a thought.
Okay Mimi and Brenda, you have both highly reccommended the movie, but what about the novel. I've put off watching the movie because I prefer to read the book first, have you guys read it? What do you think about it?
Loved the book equally well. It's different from Austen that into the love story are lots of social problems tied into it. Austen leaves out the unspoken rules of society. Gaskell goes into detail about the clashing worlds of modern northern England and southern pastoral villages with giddy young women. It makes some scenes of Austen more clear to me.
