Cooking and Driving
COOKING
I really love to cook. I love baking, too. I don't have any desire to go pro. (Frankly, the whole chef hierarchy would intimidate me - it's like the military.) I'm not a fancy cook, I like making good food for our family to enjoy. I just got home from a cooking class and I loved it. It's fun to watch and learn, then go home and try it myself. Although I picked up a few good tips tonight, I'm happy say that I think I am a more advanced cook than the level of class I took tonight. I am looking forward to upgrading. (Kelsey Nixon, from the Next Food Network Star is a teacher-I'm looking forward to trying one of her classes soon.) The recipes from tonight I am most excited to try are the black bean and salsa soup, french bread (actually I'm just excited to buy the cool pan the teacher used), BBQ meatball sandwich, and pear cobbler. I really love to keep trying a recipe until I can perfect it. I've been working on dinner rolls lately, in preparation for Thanksgiving. There is also a pie recipe (from Betty's Pies in MN) Tom wants me to work on.
DRIVING
I love listening to music. Especially in the car. Especially at night. Especially by myself. Especially when it is LOUD. I love it when I find a good song and crank it, then another song - a little louder, and so on. By the time I got home tonight I had to turn it back down, I was worried people would be able to hear the bass. This activity is much more fun in Tom's car, although I have done it in the minivan, too. When I crank it in the minivan it really does make me feel like a teenager again...cruisin in the family van. Aw, yeah. I am really Jonesin' for a car with a sunroof though. Unfortunately, there are no car purchases in our future. But, whenever that day comes... we will only consider cars with a sunroof, right Tom?

A cooking class sounds so fun! I started drooling as you listed all the recipes, especially the black bean soup with salsa. It's fall; soup is on my mind. You should seriously do cooking tutorials on your blog -- or better yet, fast easy healthy recipes you love (under 30 minutes). I'd love to hear what you cook for your family as basics. Our 'dinner basics' need to be shaken up a bit.
I totally hear you about cranking the good music while in the car. You car danced, didn't you.
I hope you know that Mikey is eternally grateful to you. I don't think he liked Jenny Craig so much. ;) Dangit, you're already trying to perfect a pie? Will this be a competitor? Anyway, I totally car danced out of a sunroof. That used to be a requirement for me too.
Car music is the best kind of therapy--cheep, too.
hmmmm...i don't ever remember any cooking on the mish... how are you!?
